So mom and dad are getting older, and you think it is time for them to find some cheap cell phone plans for seniors. If they are anything like my grandparents where, they are probably set in their ways. However, you know the importance of them being able to get a hold of you if they get into a bind or fall down and can’t get up. At the same time, you don’t want to spend too much since you know they will rarely use their phone.

Before you get started, make sure that you find some good cell phones for seniors. These phones should be very simple, have large buttons that are easy to push, and should not have all the bells and whistles your Smartphone has. The phone should also have large numbers on the buttons and there needs to be enough contrast so the buttons are easy to see. Make sure you don’t buy a phone you would want. If they still don’t know how to run the VCR or DVD player, they don’t need anything fancy.

Now that you know what to look for when it comes to a cell phone that is appropriate for seniors, it is time to choose a plan. We have looked around and our favorite plan for seniors who only need the phone for emergency use or low usage overall is the Tracfone 365 day pay as you go card. Often times you can get a free cell phone. However, I would choose a cell phone with large buttons so it is easy to use. In all, you can get service for a little over $8 per month or $100 per year. There are also other plans on the market that may be similar from other providers, but we have been buying Tracfone for our mother for the past several years.

Another good option might be adding your parent to your family cell phone plan. Depending on the provider, this can cost anywhere from $10 to $20 per month to get the additional line of service. This is a better option for those people who will need to use their phone more than 30 to 50 minutes per month. By adding them, they will have free mobile to mobile calling on most family plans at least to everyone on that plan, and in many cases to all customers of that particular cell phone service provider. Like with the Tracfone option, make sure you get a strong>big button cell phone as that will make it easier for them to use. Well, we hope we have provided some ideas that will help you in your search for cheap cell phone plan options for senior citizens.
